Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Combined with biomimetic design and multi-material composite, this work aims to construct a bionic artificial temporomandibular joint disc with super-toughness, multi-scale structure bionic property and long-term stability The strategy of combining decellularized collagen fiber matrix and strong cross-linking agent was adopted, and the high mechanical and mechanical properties of the material were achieved through the design of regional structural heterogeneity. Meanwhile, highly elastic and anisotropic polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel was introduced as a scaffold to construct an artificial joint disk with bionic structure. By gradually optimizing the preparation process, the anisotropic poly(vinyl alcohol) composite highly cross-linked decellularized matrix bionic artificial joint disc was successfully designed in this study. The mechanical properties and structural resolution will be characterized at both macroscopic and microscopic scales. Biocompatibility and anti-degradation ability will be sequentially investgated from in vitro to in vivo. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the material in practical applications were verified by evaluating the in situ replacement of sheep TMJ discs. It turns out that the artificial disc has the biomechanical characteristics of super-toughness, low energy dissipation, bionic viscoelasticity, low friction and wear, and has superior structural bionic property, strong anti-degradation, good biocompatibility and in vivo function replacement effect, which has the potential to perform organ replacement function in a long life cycle. The biomimetic super-tough artificial disc can play a superior functional replacement effect in vivo, providing a new treatment strategy for the temporomandibular joint disease.
