Comparing 0.75% Ropivacaine Versus 2% Lidocaine In Im3m Extractions

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy of 0.75% ropivacaine versus 2% lidocaine following the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars and their effects on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The findings may provide a reference for the personalized selection of local anesthetics based on extraction difficulty and for improving postoperative OHRQoL A total of 149 patients treated at our hospital between October 2021 and October 2022 were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=73, 0.75% ropivacaine) or the control group (n=76, 2% lidocaine) for local anesthesia. The experimental group demonstrated significantly superior outcomes in anesthesia quality, postoperative analgesia duration, anesthesia duration, and time to first analgesic intake (P<0.01). Additionally, the experimental group showed significantly better postoperative pain scores, reduced analgesic consumption, and improved OHRQoL scores (P<0.01), particularly in moderately difficult extractions. In high-difficulty cases, the experimental group also outperformed the control group in reducing analgesic use and enhancing postoperative social and psychological well-being. 0.75% ropivacaine provides better postoperative analgesia and greater improvement in OHRQoL compared to 2% lidocaine, making it particularly suitable for moderately to highly difficult extractions and patients prioritizing postoperative quality of life.
