Are We Missing the Forest for the Trees? How Bayesian Meta‐Analysis Could Reshape Evidence in Cardiology

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Meta-analyses in cardiology often reduce complex clinical data to a simple dichotomy of significant versus non-significant.While this simplification produces objective data with forest plots and clear headlines, it frequently hides the nuances that carry the real clinical message.Imagine a pooled analysis of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) trials showing a mortality reduction with p = 0.08.Under frequentist rules, the conclusion is "no benefit."But does a p value just above 0.05 really mean the therapy has no effect?Or does it mean we lack certainty about a signal that may matter for patients?
