Fast-Marching model for sparse emitter distributions in a lens-free near eye display

Abstract: The development of an efficient Near Eye Display for Augmented Reality applications is challenging, due to stringent physical constraints. To overcome this limitation, we introduced a new concept of display, based on the Huygens-Fresnel principle. This display requires, for each pixel of the image projected on the retina, a single distribution of random emissive points at the surface of the display. We use photonics integrated circuits for the design of this display, where emitters are located at the intersection of waveguides, that bring the light, and electrodes, that extract light. We present in this contribution several mathematical models for the definition of waveguides and electrodes shapes. By analyzing the number of intersections and their degree of randomness, we highlight the interest of a Fast-Marching method that provides the best compromise to optimize both emitters randomness and density.
