Gluteus Maximus‐Tensor Fascia Lata Transfer With Double‐Row Repair and Bioinductive Scaffold Augmentation for Chronic Abductor Tendon Tears
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Hip abductor tendon tears are a common cause of lateral hip pain and gait disturbance, especially in older adults. While conservative treatment is first-line, high failure rates often necessitate surgical intervention. Chronic, retracted tears with poor tendon quality pose a surgical challenge. In such cases, transfer of the anterior portion of the gluteus maximus and tensor fascia lata is a viable option. This Technical Note describes the surgical approach for managing chronic, retracted tears combining gluteus maximus-tensor fascia lata transfer and abductor tendon double-row repair with bioinductive collagen scaffold augmentation.
