The Subspine Sweep Technique for Hip Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine Extra‐Articular Impingement

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Extra-articular impingement has been reported alongside femoroacetabular impingement syndrome as a source of hip symptomatology, arising specifically from the anterior inferior iliac spine-also known as the "subspine." Advancements in arthroscopic surgical techniques have enabled surgeons to address these extra-articular impingement sources in a minimally invasive manner. Previous evidence has shown improvement in patient-reported outcomes, a low risk of postoperative complications, and a decreased need for revision surgery. We present an arthroscopic surgical technique for achieving intra- and extra-articular subspine decompression that is reproducible. We hope this will lead to improved clinical results in patients with subspine impingement who undergo arthroscopic subspine decompression.
