Hypoglycemia Beliefs, Impaired Hypoglycemia Awareness, and Severe Hypoglycemia in Insulin-Treated Type 2 Diabetes: Insights from CGM Users
Year: 2025
Type: other
Abstract: Recent data indicate that severe hypoglycemia (SH) persists in individuals with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes, despite using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)(1). While traditional SH risk factors, such as impaired awareness of hypoglycemia (IAH), are well-studied in non-CGM users(2), their relevance to type 2 diabetes CGM users remains unclear. Also unexamined in this population is the potential role of hypoglycemia beliefs, previously linked to SH risk in CGM users with type 1 diabetes(3), This cross-sectional observational study (University of Michigan Institutional Review Board: HUM#00244387) examined how IAH, hypoglycemia beliefs, and other potential risk factors relate to SH, categorized as (i) ≥1 episode and (ii) ≥2 episodes in the past year, in adults with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes using CGM.
