Bibliometric Analysis of 5G Wireless Channel Model Publications Using Visual Mapping Techniques

Year: 2025
Type: preprint
Abstract: This study examines the main trends and key terms in research on 5G and beyond wireless communication technologies. Although numerous studies address 5G technology and bibliometric analyses in the literature, specific works focusing solely on 5G wireless channel modeling and bibliometric analysis are lacking. Using data obtained from the Web of Science database, bibliometric analyses were performed with Bibliometrix R and Sankey diagrams, alongside visual analyses conducted with VOSviewer software. It was found that research on 5G wireless channel modeling has rapidly increased between 2002 and 2025, encompassing 2,154 studies, 671 sources, 5,855 authors, and 6,101 keywords, indicating significant scientific growth. This finding reveals that researchers from diverse disciplines have shown strong interest in this field. Key technologies aiming to optimize network efficiency, performance, and data transmission capacity, such as massive MIMO, mmWave communication, channel estimation, and beamforming, have been the primary focus. Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies, especially machine learning and deep learning, play a crucial role in network management, resource allocation, and data processing. These trends indicate an evolution toward smarter, autonomous, and self-optimizing network systems. Security and privacy issues have also gained increasing importance. The studies highlight the need for further research on spectrum management and bandwidth efficiency to improve network performance. Moreover, it is recommended to increase research on AI and Metaverse integration. To meet the requirements of advanced applications like the Metaverse, in-depth investigations into AI-supported network orchestration, intelligent content distribution, and adaptive network slicing are emphasized. In conclusion, areas such as security, AI integration, and Metaverse applications hold great potential for future research in 5G and beyond. Advancements in these topics are expected to facilitate the development of more efficient, intelligent, and secure communication networks.
