Factors Related to Successful Completion in a Long-Term Community-Based Residential Treatment Facility for Chemical Dependency
Year: 2014
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study scrutinized specified demographics and features relating to successful completion for clients that pursued treatment and management for chemical dependency at a long-term residential treatment center in Southwest Louisiana. Research protocol was accomplished via an ex post facto chart review of 100 client files, randomly selected from all cases between the years of 1998 and 2008. Univariate analyses were then finished to identify factors interrelated to successful accomplishment of the program, as well as the relationships between factors. Analyses revealed a significant statistical relationship between presence of sexual abuse in childhood across both state of completion (e.g. completion, transfer, leaving against staff advice, and discharge) and outcome (e.g. significant, marginal, insignificant, or no improvement). Consistent with earlier research, analysis validated no significant relationship between legal involvement and treatment completion. Suggestions for treatment placement in the scope ofrehabilitation planning, life care planning, and family education are discussed in the context of results from the present study.
