Abstract: Given the high incidence of disabling conditions and disparate rehabilitation outcomes among clients who are members of culturally diverse populations, rehabilitation counseling professionals are propelled to become more culturally-responsive when serving these clients. A plethora of information is found in the literature regarding the extent to which practicing professional counselors perceive themselves as cultmally competent. However, a paucity of research exists regarding rehabilitation counseling professionals. Preliminary results on the perceptions of cultural competence and the adequacy of training among practicing rehabilitation professionals in private practice ru·e provided. Implications for future research and training are discussed.
