An Analysis of Creation-Based Augmented Reality Platforms: Identifying Key Functionalities for Teaching and Learning
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Creation-based augmented reality platforms (CB-ARPs) are an emerging technology that allows users to design, develop, and deliver content in the form of augmented reality without having to code. Though researchers have found AR to be motivational and engaging to students, they are only beginning to determine if it results in higher levels of student achievement. Therefore, if CB-ARPs are to be used for creating learning experiences, a deeper understanding of their functionalities is needed. In response, a content analysis was conducted to identify CB-ARPs’ main functionalities before describing ways educators can integrate this technology into their instruction based on those functionalities. To structure the analysis, a theoretical model for evaluating the use of instructional technology was adopted, which informed how the analysis was conducted. This study’s findings and recommendations are significant because, as CB-ARPs become more popular, educators need to be prepared to use them, and this study is one of the first that takes up this line of research.
