Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Radiology: How Far We Have Come in Narrowing the Gender Gap.
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Global movements such as the #MeToo and #TimesUp campaigns have spurred efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in various medical fields that have historically been less diverse than other specialties. Based on the 2022 American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) physician specialty data report (1), 47.3% of residents and fellows in Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited programs were female. However, 26.9% of active diagnostic radiologists and 10% of active interventional radiologists are female. Within the 48 largest specialty groups, diagnostic radiology ranks 41st and interventional radiology ranks 47th with regard to the percentage of female trainees.
