Abstract: This dossier examines the persistence of blessing practices in contemporary society, contradicting forecasts of their disappearance due to scientific advancement and urbanisation. Traditional healers continue to be active, challenging paradigms about secularisation and the rationalisation of the world. A notable aspect is the profile of mediators: predominantly women, many of them black, with limited formal education and active sexual lives - contrasting with traditional religious agents (white men, celibate, with theological training). This permanence in urban contexts reveals complex nuances in human relationships with the sacred, questioning simplified understandings about modernity and religiosity, and evidencing the vitality of popular religious culture.
