Abstract: A high-purity aluminum bicrystal composed of two component crystals, (100)[010]and (101)[010], was subjected to repeated biaxial plane strain compression for up to eight passes, with a strain per pass of 0.25 (resulting in an accumulated strain of 2.0). After eight passes, the major texture components had rotated approximately 15° from their initial orientations. When comparing the textures near the grain boundary with those within 90 μm from the grain boundary, the misorientation angles of the major texture components of the (100)[010]and (101)[010] crystals were within 3° and 1°, respectively. Therefore, it was concluded that the grain boundary had no significant effect on the textures of the aluminum bicrystal. After eight passes, the (100)[010]crystal exhibited slip deformation that satisfied both strain compatibility and crystal plasticity conditions. Due to the formation of two deformation regions, the (101)[010] crystal satisfied strain compatibility but did not microscopically satisfy the crystal plasticity conditions. However, macroscopically, the crystal plasticity conditions were satisfied by summing the plastic strains introduced by two slip systems in each of the two deformation regions.
