Response of R.C. high rise buildings with double transfer floor systems for varying structural plan densities

Abstract: In multi-purpose high-rise buildings, transfer systems are introduced to redistribute vertical and lateral loads from the discontinued columns in the upper floors to the lower levels of the building. Many studies have focused only on high-rise buildings with single transfer floor systems. However, in some cases, two or more transfer floor systems are required owing to variable column configurations. This varies the response of the building, thereby leading to more emphasis on further research. A G + 24 upper storeys with three basement buildings was analyzed using nonlinear response spectrum and gust factor analyses. The building was analyzed by placing one transfer floor at a fixed position and varying the positions of the other transfer slabs. The global seismic responses of the buildings were evaluated for different Structural Plan Density (SPD) values at different Transfer Floor positions. A change in the lateral stiffness at the transfer floor levels leads to the formation of soft storeys. This was eliminated in all the models presented in this paper. It was also found that the seismic performance improved with increasing distance between the transfer slabs.
