Synthesis of Ethyl 3‐phenylimidazo[1,2‐ a ]pyridine‐2‐carboxylate by Using 2‐Aminopyridines, Diethyl Oxalate, and Benzyl Bromides

Abstract: A convenient new synthetic strategy was discovered for the synthesis of C3‐arylated imidazopyridines through alkylation of benzyl bromides with 2‐aminopyridines and base‐mediated condensation with diethyl oxalate. A series of C3‐arylated imidazopyridines was obtained in moderate to good yield. This protocol has the advantages of a mild reaction condition, broad substrate scope, and the absence of catalyst or additives.
