Abstract: Parallels between cancer and developmental states are being increasingly recognised as important. In a new study, Baker et al. use single-nucleus transcriptomic and chromatin profiling to assess cell states and gene regulatory networks in the developing human oesophagus, and draw parallels with the pre-cancerous condition Barrett's metaplasia.
