Abstract: ABSTRACT Subhojit Roy is Professor of Pathology at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) in the USA. Subhojit completed his MD in Kolkata, India and then moved to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for his PhD, where he studied axonal transport dynamics in Mark Black's lab. After completing a residency and fellowship in neuropathology at the University of Pennsylvania, he returned to the lab as a postdoc with Virginia Lee, studying the pathobiology of neurodegenerative diseases. He started his independent lab at UCSD in 2008. Subhojit joined Journal of Cell Science as an Editor in 2025 and brings to the journal his expertise in neuronal cell biology, with a focus on the physiological and pathophysiological roles of neuronal trafficking, gene editing strategies and neurotherapeutics. We spoke with Subhojit over Zoom to learn about his serendipitous path into research, the neurobiology questions that spark his curiosity, and his methodical approach to asking and answering scientific questions with clarity.
