Influence of the meridional displacement of the North African–West Asian jet on the interannual variation of surface air temperature in June over central India
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: It has been well documented that the land surface air temperature (SAT) over central India shows its largest interannual variability in June and can cause substantial socioeconomic impacts. This study investigated the circulation anomalies responsible for the interannual variation of June central Indian SAT, particularly those independent of ENSO. The results indicate that the June central Indian SAT can be affected by the Silk Road Pattern and by the meridional displacement of the North African–West Asian jet. This relationship between the circulation and SAT is valid after removing the influences of ENSO, suggesting a crucial role of extratropical circulations.
