Abstract: In this paper a new concept of the floating breakwater with zigzag geometry on the seaside of the floating breakwater body was studied numerically. The hydrodynamic analysis of the zigzag floating breakwater has been investigated using the boundary element method (BEM) based on the 3D diffraction radiation theory to estimate the effect of the zigzag floating breakwater geometry on its performance. The zigzag floating breakwater was designed by deforming the seaside wall of the breakwater with three different zigzag angles (60, 90, and 120 degree). For further investigation, a horizontal plate was added in the middle of the breakwater to act as a heave plate and reduce the platform heave response. The obtained results showed that as the amplitude of the incident wave decreases within the zigzag geometry, the reflected waves height increases, which is due to the conduction of incident waves within a convergent zigzag section. It was also found that the middle plate at an angle of 60 and 90 degree reduces the wave transmissions coefficient in the range of W2B/2g =0.6 to 1.4. While by further increasing the zigzag angle (120 degree) the middle plate has a negative impact on the breakwater performance.
