The Impact of Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the African Union's Agenda 2063
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remains a crucible of persistent conflict, particularly in its volatile eastern provinces. This article contends that the entrenched violence, exemplified by the recent resurgence of the M23 rebellion, constitutes a profound betrayal of the African Union's (AU) Agenda 2063 and its cornerstone initiative, “Silencing the Guns.” By examining the historical roots, systemic challenges, and international dynamics fueling the conflict, this piece highlights the widening chasm between the AU's aspirations and the grim realities on the ground.
