Abstract: September 29, 1959–September 25, 2025 The American Fisheries Society lost a dear friend and longtime supporter in Dawn Heilman, who passed away September 25, 2025. Dawn and her husband Mark, who passed away in 2021, were the owners and operators of Frigid Units, Inc. Close readers of Fisheries would recognize their ads, which have been included in the magazine dating back years. Their equipment was used by AFS members for a wide range of research and management projects. The Heilmans were a mainstay at AFS Annual Meetings. Frigid Units, Inc. has been a part of the AFS trade show for the past 17 years—one of only two exhibitors to have a booth for that long. In 2021 at the Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Dawn was unable to attend, but graciously bought pizza for AFS staff for helping to set up her unstaffed booth. “My parents both loved AFS and all the connections they made over the years thru AFS trade shows and others that they attended,” said Dawn and Mark’s son, James. “They were always looking forward to planning the next one. I, alongside my brother Mark, will be in Columbus to hopefully carry out their legacy with the company for a long time to come.” Dawn and Mark are survived by their son Mark Heilman, Jr. and wife Ashley, daughter Genah Babcock and significant other Eric Hughes, son James Heilman and wife Katelyn, and daughter Kaitlin Bridget and husband Marcus, as well as her four grandchildren, Noah Heilman, Madeline Heilman, Luke Heilman, and Cambry Bridget. In memory of Dawn M. Heilman, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://bit.ly/4noAm5Q) or Hospice of Northwest Ohio (https://bit.ly/4o8sRBd).
