Prediction markets for crime rates: A comprehensive review (as an experiment in genAI authorship)

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: If prediction markets can predict election winners before anyone else, I figure they can be a useful tool for criminologists. But crime rates and prediction markets aren't my expertise.I don't have the time to write a thoughtful paper about their intersection.Instead of write nothing, I did the next best thing: collaborate with generative artificial intelligence (genAI).This page shares our article, which you should read with great skepticism.I haven't verified anything.I haven't even edited it, except for formatting. The unformatted version is embedded below as a PDF.It also has the prompt that I gave to the genAI platform, Perplexity, to create the article. Prediction Markets for Crime Rates.pdf 684 KBAs preparation for the final product, I had four conversations with the platform. One was about how to write an article suitable to Annual Reviews. The others were reviews of predicting crime rates, prediction markets, and prediction markets for crime rates. These conversations are below too.It took me about an hour to create them and the article. Was it worth it?Let me know what you think, especially if you have corrections or consider yourself an expert in crime rates, prediction markets, or genAI.
