Neuromuscular Ultrasound for the Diagnosis of Acute Onset Median Neuropathy Secondary to a Thrombosed Persistent Median Artery: A Case Report

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Entrapment of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel (carpal tunnel syndrome) typically presents with chronic symptoms.Acute-onset median neuropathy, therefore, warrants special diagnostic attention.Ultrasonography allows clinicians to investigate potential anatomic causes of median neuropathy such as cysts, anomalous anatomy, masses, and tenosynovitis that cannot be otherwise confirmed. We present a case of median neuropathy with acute onset of symptoms in which the etiology was determined with ultrasound, which led to a focused treatment approach.
