Abstract: The objective of this study is to examine the strategic role of landscape architecture in combating climate change. The potential of landscape architecture to provide environmental and social benefits is evaluated on the basis of the concepts of sustainability, resilience and adaptation. The research encompasses an examination of strategies such as water management, green infrastructure and the protection of natural resources, with a particular focus on their implementation within the context of landscape architecture. Additionally, it analyses the success of projects that have been designed with sustainability and resilience in mind. In this context, academic studies on sustainability, resilience and adaptation approaches were collated in order to determine the effects of climate change on landscape design. The data were obtained by searching a number of databases, including Web of Science, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, IEEE Xplore, Google Scholar, JSTOR and Scopus, using the following keywords: 'sustainable and resilient design approaches in landscape architecture' and related keywords. The articles with the highest number of citations were given priority, and the successful landscape projects around the world were evaluated in the context of sustainability and resilience. It was revealed that landscape architecture supports environmental sustainability by providing resilient and adaptive designs against climate change impacts such as floods, droughts and extreme temperatures. The study emphasises the impact of landscape architecture in increasing the capacity of environmental and social resilience to climate change and predicts that future projects can offer more effective solutions with sustainability and adaptation-oriented strategies.
