Abstract: A concise, metal-free denitrogenative cyclization of benzothiatriazines was developed for the efficient synthesis of seven-membered biaryl sultams. This method proceeds under simple thermal conditions and tolerates a broad substrate scope. The mechanistic study indicates that the reaction involves the formation of a diradical intermediate.
