Ambient temperature extremes and climate-related impacts on cardiovascular health: disparities and research gaps
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Climate change increases extreme temperatures and natural disasters ultimately increasing cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks. Extreme heat and cold stress affect cardiovascular physiology, increasing the risks of CVD mortality. Disasters exacerbate similar risks indirectly through air pollution and psychological stress. Vulnerable populations across demographic and geographic categories face disproportionate burdens. Current research and data present a skewed analysis leaving many unexplained gaps. Equitable research and policy are needed to address these limitations.
