Information-centric production information management (IcPIM) framework for the consistent use of production planning-related data in the automotive industry
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Production planning is the linking function between product development and production and therefore an important stakeholder of PLM systems in the automobile manufacturing industry, aiming to manage data throughout various lifecycle stages. Yet, state of the art PLM data structures present challenges because of their lack of flexibility and automation concerning needs-orientated data structures addressing the data domains of products, processes and resources. Another crucial challenge is the transferability of data throughout different applications in a diverse IT-landscape in high volume, customization and complexity industries. This work presents a concept for the management of production planning-related data structures for consistent use from product development and production planning up to production IT and Digital Twin applications. It is developed based on a large-scale case study in an automobile OEM group and validated in concept trial studies as well as an ongoing organizational change project towards data governance in the corporate context.
