It identifies significant gaps and disparities in policy coverage, emphasizing the pivotal role of dietary regulations and food quality in influencing the overall wellbeing of prisoners. A comprehensive desk review, key informant interviews, and policy analysis were conducted to evaluate how national policies align with and impact prisoners’ health. The review highlights areas that require improvement to enhance health outcomes, proposing policy reforms that include enhanced nutritional guidelines, increased funding, and regular monitoring. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for a comprehensive food systems approach in prisons.
