Abstract: This commentary highlights the recent identification of exogenous application of sodium butyrate, as a histone deacetylase inhibitor that improves rice drought resistance via enriching sulfate-reducing bacteria to elevate rhizosphere-derived H2S production, which in turn represses OsHDA710 expression and activity to activate drought responses.
