Study design: Case Report
Abstract: • Globalization has led to the arising of new pathogens or cross-species transmission. • Merging traditional techniques and molecular methods leads to precise identification. • The check-up questionnaire guides the choice of the study methodology. • Finding the source of infection allows to apply preventive and control measures. Globalization and the introduction of exotic pets have led to the identification of new species that produce tinea in humans. Here, we report the clinical case of a 22-year-old female, who presented with a lesion on her hand that was compatible with dermatophytosis. Molecular biology methods identified the cultured fungus as Trichophyton erinacei .
