Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis: A case report
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Xanthogranulomatous Prostatitis (XGP) is a rare benign inflammatory condition of the prostate. Patients typically present with lower urinary tract symptoms or elevated serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. Differentiating XGP from prostate cancer (PCa) based solely on multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) findings remains challenging, as histopathological examination is the gold standard for definitive diagnosis. This case report describes a 57-year-old man diagnosed with XGP. Symptomatic remission was achieved following a 4-week course of antibiotic therapy combined with an alpha-blocker. • Diagnostic Challenges: This case highlights the limitations of pre-operative imaging and serum markers in distinguishing XGP from malignancy, underscoring the critical role of histopathological confirmation. • Conservative Management Success: It demonstrates a successful outcome with a 4-week regimen of levofloxacin and tamsulosin, offering a valuable reference for the non-surgical management of selected XGP cases.
