Strong transverse Anderson localization in a PMMA-PS-air disordered optical fiber for ultra-broadband imaging
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: We demonstrate, to our knowledge, a novel ternary elements disordered optical fiber (DOF) composed of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), and air, which exhibits an enhanced transverse Anderson localization (TAL) effect over an ultra-wide bandwidth from visible to mid-infrared (MIR) wavelengths (633-2500 nm).Through systematic optimization of the element composition ratio and structural parameters, we achieved improved light confinement characteristics. At the optimal element ratio of 0.35:0.35:0.3(PMMA:PS:air), the fiber maintains an average localized beam radius below 24 μm across the 633-2500 nm wavelength range, representing a 17.5% radius reduction compared to conventional binary PMMA-PS DOFs.Imaging simulations validate the outstanding performance of the fiber, demonstrating stable image transmission with mean square error (MSE) fluctuations below 9.5% throughout the operational spectrum. This work not only enriches the theoretical foundation of DOF but also provides an innovative solution for broadband, high-resolution imaging applications.
