Abstract: Isovalent substitution of Ir 4 + with Sn 4 + in perovskite SrIrO 3 induces a metal-insulator transition accompanied with strong antiferromagnetic ordering. We performed resonant x-ray scattering to investigate the magnetism in SrIr 0.8 Sn 0.2 O 3 . The G -type antiferromagnetic ordering with spin pointing along c axis was fully determined by azimuth-dependent elastic scattering. Dynamical magnetic excitation spectra were measured with resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. Strong magnetic exchange interactions were observed with magnon dispersing up to ∼ 130 meV , and the anisotropy drives a large ∼ 50 meV gap. With these results, we discuss the paramagnetic semimetallic behavior of the undoped SrIrO 3 .
