Abstract: This article reviews the literature that surrounds the victimization of people with disabilities. Several theoretical models are discussed in an attempt to explain the basis for the abuse. Issues affecting the work of life care planners are highlighted and specific recommendations are made to minimize the potential for abuse of individuals who are severely disabled.
