Study of Tokujin-do in Koishikawa Korakuen Garden (part 3) : Changes Made to the Historical Building Due to Social Factors

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The buildings in Koishikawa Korakuen Garden functioned as both a “view” and a “use,” and Tokujin-do was built to combine both qualities. The name and statues enshrined there have changed, and this paper examines the social factors that have led to these changes. Historical buildings can provide a more accurate evaluation of architectural phenomena due to their social context. By accumulating such verification, it will be possible to clarify the political and ideological aspects that influenced the history of a building, as well as the technical theories, leading to a reevaluation of the significance and diversity of buildings throughout history.
