Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Recently, there has been an increasing number of offices incorporating plants in their interior spaces as a biophilic design approach. This study aims to clarify the characteristics of placemaking by examining the coexistence of plants and people at the entrance spaces of lower floors of large-scale office buildings in central Tokyo. From 44 building cases, 443 Plant Units and 71 Green Areas were extracted, and classified into eight Green Area Patterns based on the amount of greenery, seating arrangements, and their connection with outdoor environments. The result finds Indoor Green and Placemaking typologies and their tendentious aspects.
