Communication Sciences and Disorders: The Future of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Year: 2015
Type: article
Abstract: This Special Issue will discuss a few of the current advances in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) research, as each pertains to speech, language, swallowing, cognitive communication and/or hearing impairments, which impact on the planning and projections that life care planners use for their patients with communication impairments. The research advances selected for discussion in this issue are: 1. Neuroimaging Techniques: Susceptibility Weighted Imaging, Magnetoencephalography Imaging, and Diffusion Tensor MRI 1. 2. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation 1. 3. Laryngeal Imaging 2. 4. Biofeedback for Acquired Apraxia of Speech 3. 5. Audiology: The Future of Hearing 4. 6. Technology: Smartphones and Apps for Individuals who are Hearing Impaired The Special Issue will note some of the “brand new” research coming out that will affect how Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and Audiologists address treatment for individuals with speech, language and hearing problems in the near future. At the conclusion of each article, the author will include implications for life care planners that relate the research to how the life care planner can apply it to the patient planning process and development of the current life care plan.
