Abstract: Protonation of a heterometallic silanide complex with an alcohol led to formation of a σ-silane complex. This reaction does not require a strong acid or a weakly coordinating anion. Both metals of the heterometallic complex play an important role, with the aluminium centre sequestering the anion generated in the protonation step.
