Abstract: In the present work, we explore the effect of the meson cloud dressing in the octet and decuplet baryon masses within the perturbative chiral quark model by considering both the ground and excited quark propagators. The total results on the octet and decuplet baryon masses agree excellently with the experimental data. In addition, the study shows clearly that π, K and η meson clouds contributing to the baryon masses are significantly influential, reducing about 40% of three quark-core values. And the study also reveals that the excited-states in the intermediate quark propagators play an extremely important role, they are twice as larger as those from the ground-state quark propagator.
