Abstract: Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a slowly progressive form of autoimmune diabetes that shares features of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, often leading to misdiagnosis and a delay in starting needed insulin therapy. This review summarizes LADA's presentation, diagnostic criteria, and management, emphasizing the importance of testing for antibodies early in the course of disease when patients have atypical features of type 2 diabetes.
