Reflections on Inclusive Approaches to Research Co-Design and Participant-Led Analysis: The Potential of CoNavigator
Year: 2025
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: This paper aims to prompt reflection on how to better include non-academic partners in research design and data analysis. In the first part, we offer ten research scenarios intended to provoke discussion on some aspects of common research practice. This is informed by ideas of social justice and more equitable ways of developing and sharing knowledge. We then describe how a tool (CoNavigator) that is currently used for interdisciplinary collaboration and in higher education teaching and learning can be used not just as a more inclusive approach to codesigning research with a range of actors, but as an analytic method in its own right, which enables participants to undertake the analysis and interpretation of their own data. Both the potential and limitations of this approach are acknowledged.
