Acceptability of a chikungunya vaccine and dengue vaccine among travelers in Martinique (French West Indies), for the travel and for their home territory

Abstract: • We evaluated the acceptance of chikungunya and dengue live vaccines • Our study focused on users of Martinique’s travel clinics (French West Indies) • The population surveyed is regularly exposed to arboviral diseases • Participants were more interested in vaccination for Martinique than for a travel • Participants were more interested in dengue vaccination Chikungunya and dengue incidence are increasing worldwide. Vaccines are now available against these two arboviral diseases. We evaluated the acceptability of live chikungunya and dengue vaccines (VLA1553 and TAK-003) among users of Martinique’s travel clinics, from January to April 2025. We ask if they would like these vaccines for a travel with risk of exposure and/or for their territory. While planning travel, 41% of the respondents would be interested in the chikungunya vaccine, and 55% would be interested in the dengue vaccine. For the Martinique territory, 55% would be willing to receive the chikungunya vaccine, and 58% would be willing to receive the dengue vaccine. In both situation (travel and home territory), the acceptability was higher for dengue than for chikungunya vaccination. The acceptability was higher for the two vaccines for the home territory than for a travel at risk of exposure. Few data are available about acceptability of chikungunya vaccine. We found almost the same acceptability of this vaccine for the home territory as the United States Virgin Islands did (56%) (an oversea territory of United State of America in Caribbean), and than La Réunion (another French oversea territory in Indian ocean) (60.5 % in the hypothetical full-reimbursement scenario).
