Baseline NT-proBNP and incident heart failure in type 1 diabetes: The epidemiology of diabetes complications study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study investigated whether NT-proBNP values were associated with long-term heart failure (HF) incidence in people with type 1 diabetes. Our results showed continuous lnNT-proBNP was significantly associated with 10-year HF risk, while the guideline-recommended threshold NT-proBNP ≥125 ng/L was not, in the Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications Study. • Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a risk factor for incident heart failure (HF). • NT-proBNP is recommended as a screening tool for HF in this population. • Baseline NT-proBNP was associated with 10-year HF risk in the EDC cohort. • However, the guideline-recommended NT-proBNP threshold of ≥125 ng/L was not. • Larger cohorts with older T1D patients are needed to evaluate this question.
