Optical Recording Characteristics of MnWZnO Thin Film and Its Mechanism

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Multilayer Blu‐ray discs face a significant challenge in achieving large‐capacity storage due to the lack of suitable recording materials with high transparency and efficient recording mechanisms. This work develops a Mn, W, and Zn codoped oxide (MnWZnO) thin film as a recording medium. Crucially, synergistic codoping of Zn and W enables a unique optical‐recording pathway: W enhances the thermal stability of MnO 2 component, while Zn optimizes optical properties. Under laser irradiation, MnO 2 undergoes thermal decomposition, releasing oxygen gas and forming lower‐valence Mn oxides (MnO/Mn 2 O 3 ). This process, confined by protective ZnS‐SiO 2 layers, generates bubbles that create significant optical contrast. The MnWZnO film exhibits tunable optical properties primarily governed by Mn content, and the optimized recording layer structure achieves high transmittance (>90% at 405 nm wavelength) critical for multilayer applications. High‐density recording is demonstrated with nanosecond‐scale speed (5 ns), showcasing the potential of the bubble‐forming mechanism for next‐generation, large‐capacity multilayer optical storage.
