Constructing ordinary representations of finite groups via extension
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Efficient practical methods are described for the construction of ordinary representations of a finite group G via the extension of existing representations defined on a proper subgroup of G . Using an implementation of these methods within the Magma Computer Algebra System, minimal-degree faithful ordinary representations of several of the large sporadic simple groups (including the Baby Monster) were explicitly constructed for the first time.
