Discovery in France of a snakefly species previously thought to be endemic to the Iberian Peninsula: Fibla hesperica Navás, 1915 (Raphidioptera, Inocelliidae)

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Fibla hesperica Navás, 1915, a species previously thought to be endemic to Spain and Portugal, is reported for the first time in France, in the Hérault department, notably in the Montpellier urban area. The species’ identification criteria are illustrated. The origin of this population is discussed. The presence of unidentified Fibla specimens in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, and Vaucluse departments is confirmed by recent photographs, which may correspond either to F. hesperica or to F. maclachlani (Albarda, 1891), a species known from Corsica and Italy.
