Optical Wireless Transmission of 8 Gbps Using Array of Large Grating Couplers on Silicon Photonics for Light Collection

Abstract: We demonstrate a$240-\mu \mathrm{m}$-diameter “windmill” array of four large-area 80°-opening-angle surface grating couplers fabricated on Silicon-on-Insulator platform with 7-dB 360° horizontal field of view. Error-free OWC data transmission of NRZ OOK 8 Gbps was achieved at the eye-safe power level. ©2025 The Author(s)
