TULIPS Class 2.0: The Use of Functional Luminal Imaging Probe During Surgery

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The Endoluminal Functional Lumen Imaging Probe (EndoFLIPTM) impedance planimetry system is a tool that allows for real-time, objective feedback of gastrointestinal sphincter geometry in both the gastrointestinal suite and the operating room. Eight experienced foregut surgeons and one gastroenterologist, with a total of over 3750 FLIP cases, reviewed published data, unpublished data, and personal experience to update protocols for FLIP impedance planimetry system use in the operating room during fundoplication, magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA), laparoscopic Heller myotomy (LHM), and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). Additionally, they created standardized protocols for FLIP impedance planimetry system use in the operating room during peroral pyloromyotomy (POP), cricopharyngeal myotomy (CPM), and for collecting FLIP Panometry (ie, esophageal motility evaluation) in either the gastrointestinal (GI) suite or the operating room.
