Abstract: ABSTRACT Superior tracking resistance is essential for the long‐term service of silicone rubber insulation material in outdoor applications. A tracking‐resistant silicone rubber was prepared by incorporating a small amount of organic‐modified montmorillonite (OMMT) in the silicone rubber with a platinum‐nitrogen (Pt‐NS) system consisting of Karsted's catalyst (Pt) and aminopropyltriethoxysilane (NS). At contents of 0.5 phr OMMT, 15 ppm Pt, and 2.0 phr NS, the silicone rubber composite achieved a tracking resistance grade of 1A4.5 level with 0.48% eroded mass. Under arc discharge, the Pt‐NS system promoted surface ceramization of silicone rubber, with OMMT lamellae enhancing the density of the ceramic‐like barrier, thereby significantly improving its tracking resistance. This work provides an effective strategy for improving the reliability of high‐voltage insulating silicone rubber.
